Emily Moorefield is a registered dietitian and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist with expertise in nutrition counseling for children, teens, and adults navigating eating disorders. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics from James Madison University, graduating Cum Laude, and completed her Dietetic Internship at the University of Virginia Health System, where she received advanced training in pediatric and medical nutrition therapy.
Emily has held clinical and leadership roles across residential (RTC), partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), and outpatient (OP) levels of care. She began her career at Prosperity Eating Disorder and Wellness Center in Charlottesville, VA, quickly advancing to Nutrition Manager. Later, she served as Director of Nutrition Services at Aster Springs in Richmond, overseeing nutrition programming and staff across multiple sites.
At CEDAR, Emily brings her extensive experience to the role of Senior Dietitian, specializing in collaborative, team-based care grounded in Family-Based Treatment (FBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Eating Disorders (CBT-E). Her counseling approach blends evidence-based nutrition science with Motivational Interviewing techniques to support clients in healing their relationship with food and body while empowering families throughout recovery. Guided by Maslow’s words—“In any given moment, we have two options: to step forward into growth or step back into safety”—Emily is committed to walking alongside clients as they choose growth and build meaningful lives beyond eating disorders.
Emily also offers individualized gut-health consultations to support healing during nutritional rehabilitation and beyond. She is deeply committed to advancing evidence-based care and believes recovery is most successful when clients remain engaged with their families and supported in their daily environments. She actively participates in research and team learning to continually refine her clinical approach.
Known for her warmth and compassion, Emily creates an inclusive, nonjudgmental space where clients feel safe to explore challenges, strengthen motivation, and move toward lasting recovery.
“Outside of work, Emily can usually be found kneading dough to make her next loaf of bread, planning her next travel adventure, or out walking with her partner and their dog.”
