Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why should I/we choose Richmond Center for Eating Disorders (RCED) for eating disorder treatment rather than a treatment facility?

We offer a free service to all of our patients that helps you get reimbursed for services quickly from your insurance company.

Most current patients receive 30-70% reimbursement for our services. Check below under What Are Your Fees for more info.

90% of our patients recover in under 1 year and stay in lasting recovery. With the combination of the best treatments in the eating & anxiety disorder field, our expert care team and our talent at teaching and empowering loves ones, patients get better faster than traditional treatment or with generalized Providers and they stay better.

We believe that parents/patients should have a choice regarding eating disorder treatment. Due to the seriousness of these illnesses we want individuals and their families/carers to be informed about treatment options as well as the outcomes of those treatments. The methods that are delivered at RCED have demonstrated empirical support. We believe that families/carers/individuals are not to be blamed for eating disorders, and instead are vital resources to the success of a treatment plan.

  • What are your fees?

We offer a free service to all of our patients that helps you get reimbursed for services quickly from your insurance company.

Most current patients receive 30-70% reimbursement for our services. Patients can pay a $5-7 service fee and pay only what they owe their insurance companies for our services. For instance, if you will get reimbursed by your insurance company 50% for our services, rather than paying the whole fee up front and being reimbursed, instead you pay only 50% plus the $5-7 to use the serivce. Please inquire further with our front desk by emailing hello@rcedva.com. We will answer any questions you have, and if we do not know, we will help you find out.

Because we use the best treatments for eating & anxiety disorders and because we are a highly skilled team, when people come to see us they experience full recovery much more rapidly than with traditional treatment away from home, also making treatment much more affordable. When people have to go away to treatment or have frequent appointments each week, they spend more on living arrangements, travel, eating out and lost time at work. At our Clinic, people have 1-2 appointments weekly in our programs and get better in under 12 months.

  • Do you take insurance?

Please see What Are Your Fees for more infomation or email us @ hello@rcedva.com to get a detailed answer.

This is a question we recieve frequently. There are many reasons we do not accept in network insurance and chief among them are that insurance dictates treatment and in our clinical experience that results in teens and individuals not getting the treatment they need to fully recover. And because treatment away from home costs $30,000-60,000/monthly. You did not read that wrong. And this does not cost living costs or the cost of being away from work. Invariably, individuals and families end up paying a portion of that and any portion of that is too expensive for 85% of the population. If insurance decides you or your child is better before they actually are, they just stop paying for treatment-leaving the patient and the family to pay that crushing bill or having to leave treatment before they are ready. At CEDAR our full programs cost under 15% of these costs.

We choose to be out of network providers and help patients to access their out of network benefits. That way we can help our patients get better faster and normally at a lower cost than treatment in a facility or ongoing ineffective treatment that insurance companies dictate.

Your insurance plan may cover your visits, but we cannot guarantee coverage. You may verify your coverage by contacting your insurance provider’s members services department prior to your appointment and asking if your plan covers the following:

    VERIFY BENEFITS GUIDE

    Therapy (CPT codes 90834, 90837, 90847)

Medical Nutrition Therapy (CPT codes: 97802 & 97803)

Check with your provider once they give you a diagnosis to see if your insurance company covers your diagnosis code.

We work with a platform called Thrizer that can help you to facilitate Out of Network billing more quickly and efficiently. Ask for details.

Many patients are still able to utilize insurance benefits to pay for a portion of therapy and nutrition sessions with an out-of-network provider. This is done by patients submitting a statement from our practice to the insurance provider and your insurance company may reimburse you directly. We cannot guarantee reimbursement from your insurance company.

  • What is a good faith estimate?

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes  related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.

Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least one business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call RCED @ (804) 767-0111
